Read
Gatecrasher by madeleine wickham... same person as sophie kinsella, author of the shopaholic series, the undomestic goddess and can you keep a secret? .... all which i absolutely love *heart* ^^ I guess the one written under this pen name(madeleine wickham) is more... serious and probably more realistic... At the start, the main character is introduced... Fleur's a gate crasher at funerals. Through a good friend who sings at funerals. she manages to gain info regarding who's rich and whatnot. She basically goes after he rich ones, get nice hats(only in black)...etc And once she decides she can't stand him and wants to leave him, she'll take whatever amount of money he can afford to lose and leave for.. another funeral to find a potential victim *ah hem*... suitor. After all, aren't people most vunerable at funerals? it's certainly a good place for her... She doesn't intend to stop until she achieves her goal to become a rich woman. So, at a funeral she meets richard, a man wose wife, emily had just passed away. A sad widower... a filthy rich sad widower... perfect. With a son-in-law with secret intentions, a daughter who wishes people would notice her and live the kind of life she dreams of... Besides, it turns out the late Emily wasn't quite as perfect as everyone always says/said. Unlike the ones written under sophie kinsella, this book isn't written from the main character's point of view... in first person. So a reader can pretty much get an insight on the other characters' thoughts. Then there's how Fleur's past starts to catch up with her... her daughter's dad.
Within the last week, i've also read...
- Summer Psychic
- Alice in wonderland
- Twilight
Summer PsychicDidn't quite LOVE this one although it wasn't bad. It starts of with Katie, a journalist who pretty much sucks at her job because she doesn't want to "exploit" people. So Katie is assigned to interview a psychic named Jim, an australian guy who can predict things by looking into his bucket of water (it would work anywhere with water, whether it's in his beer, the basin or even in the sea). He manages to tell the origin of her name and some other stuff but what really shocks her is when he says that they'll get married by the end of summer.
Yea right... But the thing is, he can actually tell stuff... like how her ex-boyfriend whom she came close to marrying, Andrew, didn't really die in a
car accident, something she and his brother have been telling everyone else. Sure it's the truth if you keep the word "car" and take away the word "accident". Later on, Jim can even communicate with the dead, sort of acting as a medium, delivering messages. He is even "contacted" by Katie's late grandfather and Andrew... With a twist of fate, they do, of course, get married.
Alice in wonderlandI've always wanted to read this... but i never managed to find the book... i guess i just wasn't looking hard enough. It's filled with nonsense that after reading it i couldn't really comprehend what my sister was saying because i was well... still stuck in wonderland. LOL ^_____^ It's a very imaginative story, as expected. Easily one of my
fave classics. Not much of a surprise considering how the Alice in the disney version is also one of my fave disney characters. It's an interesting read... it's like a book filled with crap but written out in a witty way... does that even make sense? o_______O
TwilightBella is the new girl in Forks, after deciding to live with her father Charlie, in order to allow her mother to travel with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, a "strictly minor league" baseball player. Forks is not sunny, forks is too green, forks is not, Phoenix. On the first day of school, she thinks that she doesn't quite fit in, appearance wise. Then again, she never quite fit in in her old school either. Nevertheless, she soon meets some friendly classmates. There's Mike and chess club Eric who both have taken a liking to her. Then Jessica who likes Mike and the quiet Angela. However, what really catches her attention are the Cullens. All with pale complexions yet looking exceedingly beautiful. 3 guys and 2 girls. Emmett Cullen, who looked more mature and well built then the rest. Jasper Hale, less muscular and more lean. Edward Cullen, looking like the youngest among the lot. Rosalie Hale who looked as though she just stepped out of a magazine and being in her presence would make any other girl feel bad. Alice Cullen, with pixie like features and the grace as well as movement that would break a ballerina's heart. According to Jessica and from what she can see, Bella learns that the Cullens never really interact with others and just hung around each other. In biology, Bella is forced to sit beside the gorgeous and mysterious Edward. Not being able to phantom why, Bella notices he seems to have developed some sort of a disliking for her. With all that glaring and whatnot. In fact, it felt like hatred. Just as she's about to get knocked down by another classmate, he saves her. But that couldn't be possible could it? She distinctly remembered him standing further away. Through careful observation, Bella realizes that Edward is more than he seems to be and starts developing her own set of theories on what he might be. Eventually, based of what she learns from a friend, Jacob Black of the Quileute tribe and her own observations, she discovers that Edward and his foster family are reformed vampires who substitute animal blood for human blood in their diet. Despite the obstacles presented by the vampire nature of the Cullen family, Edward and Bella fall deeply in love. One of the problems being Bella's alluring scent, which is supposedly Edward's favourite. Thus, making it difficult for his to restrain himself from attacking. Everything seemed to be going pretty well actually, considering the circumstances. That is, until another vampire coven arrives in Forks and James, the leader, a tracker, sets his sights on Bella. He is thrilled by the challenge, seeing that the family would definately try and protect her. James begins a game of cat and mouse. Under the assumption that James has kidnapped her mother, Bella is lured to her former dance studio, where James attacks her. Before that however, Alice's past, her human life which she can't remember is revealed to Bella. Edward, along with the rest of the Cullen family manages to successfully rescue her just in time(the usual?). Although Alice who can see the future has predicted Bella turning into one of them and Bella certainly wishes for this to happen, Edward refuses to allow it.
